There is no I in Team…wait a minute; this is not the real problem. The real problem is when someone’s idea (presumably that someone is a senior manager) for success resides within them alone. When someone else (presumably junior to them) dares speak ideas that are counter to what they have already decided is gospel – you have a clash that will likely be won by that manager.  New ideas are crushed.  Creative minds are shut down and the company goes back to “the way things are always done.”

An effective manager does not control their team like a horse with a bit and bridle; they channel their energy so everyone’s knowledge and ideas are given the opportunity to be heard and improved upon.

If you are a manager, check your ego and make sure you are managing and not dictating.  Create an atmosphere where everyone feels like their idea will be respected and given full consideration.
