Measuring Monkey Butts

Measure twice and cut once – good advice. But I don’t care if you measured your 2×4 ten times and cut once…it will do you no good at all if you need at 4×4!

What marketing activity are you measuring at your business? Blog entries? Ad word campaigns? Email marketing? Number of sales calls? Direct mail pieces sent? Maybe its client “touches.” Do you know why you are measuring these?

You can hold everyone on your team accountable for x number of sales calls – and they can exceed that by 100 % every month…but if direct sales aren’t how you get business – you might as well be measuring the size of monkey butts at the zoo.

Know what business you want, know how best to get that business, focus on the activities that work best for your business…and measure those activities – not the monkey’s butt!
